In the 5th minute, a shot from Cross was taken comfortably by Bingham. He cleared the ball downfield and the ball was well controlled on the edge of the box by Bacon who lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper into the County net. A cross from the right by White in the 10th minute was met by Bacon in the middle but his glancing header was wide of the far post. A centre from the left by McQuade in the 38th minute was just out of reach of White. Stags went into the break with a deserved one goal lead. Osborne replace Bolland at the start of the second half. In the 50th minute, a free kick from Rew some 25 yards was directed straight into the keepers arms. A few minutes later, White flicked a header into the patch of Elliott but his well struck shot was wide of the target. County nearly equalised in the 65th minute when a shot from Jorgensen was scrambled over the line for a corner. Mark Wright replace Danny bacon in the 69th minute. In the 73rd minute, County drew level when Holyoak failed to clear a cross from the right and Cross stuck the ball into the top left hand corner leaving Bingham with no chance. A few minutes later, a well struck free kick from 30 yards by Jorgensen went straight into Binghams arms. In the 84th Minute White shot on the turn but it was comfortably saved by the keeper. A couple of minutes later, County nearly took the lead. A shot from Jorgensen was turned round the post by Bingham. The corner from the right was put out for another corner on the left. This time Jorgensen met the cross but his header was just wide of the far post. County dominated most of the second half but the young Stags side held on for a draw.

Report by Rob Wheldon
A very young
Stags Reserve side took on a much more experienced County side
at Clipstone's Lido ground this afternoon. It took just 5 minutes
for the
Stags to take the lead and what a goal it was. Bingham launched
the ball
well into the County half, Danny Bacon's first touch with his
left foot was
sublime and then with his right he produced a simply stuning lob
to leave
County keeper Deeney helpless. Bacon was again in action soon
after, this
time firing a left foot half volley wide whilst at the other end
Bingham
saved well from a Heffernan header. Just past the half hour
Bingham was
called upon again this time to tip over a mis-hit Nicholson
cross. The Stags
then threatened down the left as McQuade put in a dangerous cross
which just
evaded Bacon. Just before half time Jervis did well to divert a
dangerous
low cross over his own bar, the corner was cleared to Riley whose
shot was
easily saved by Bingham.
The first action of the 2nd half saw the Stags again on the
attack, Andy
White flicked on another Bingham clearance to put Elliott clean
through but
he dragged his right foot shot wide of the post. County
threatened next with
a dangerous ball in from Cross which Jorgensen prodded goalwards
only to be
denied by Bingham who saved well from close range. The excellent
Bacon was
withdrawn on 68 minutes and replaced by Wright. Five minutes
later County
were level, Holyoak appeared to have been fouled but play was
allowed to
continue and Heffernan burst through and blasted past Bingham.
Jorgensen
then saw his free kick on the edge of the box brilliantly tipped
away by
Bingham, with the resultant corner headed wide by the same County
player.
All in all a fair result, with the Stags looking threatening in
attack and
fairly solid defensively, Jervis certainly looking good as a
centre half.

County smoked by Bacon

Danny Bacon enhanced his first-team claims with a superb
finish as a young Town reserve side held Notts County 1-1
yesterday.
The game in the Avon Insurance League Division Two saw The Stags
field three trialists against what was a strong County side.
Bacon made light of the windy conditions to control a long
clearance from keeper Michael Bingham in the sixth minute before
executing a perfect lobbed finish from 20 yards to give Mansfield
the lead.
He also came close on several other occasions and was a constant
handful on his return from a groin injury.
But the young Stags side began to run out of steam in the second
half and County grabbed a point after sloppy defending allowed
Paul Heffernan a 68th minute equaliser.
"Danny came through the game fine with no reaction to his
injury and will now be in contention for the first team on
Saturday," said Stags assistant manager Stuart Watkiss.
"He scored an excellent goal which was top quality from
start to finish.
"If that had been on television, it was the sort of goal
they'd be talking about for months."
He added: "It was a young side, due to injuries and players
having played the night before, so I was pleased with our
efforts.
The game was switched to local non-league Clipstone Welfare's
ground to give the Field Mill pitch time to recover for
Saturday's visit of Luton.
Stags fielded just Bacon and Andy White up front as the only
players with any first-team experience, apart from keeper
Bingham, playing his second game in less than 24 hours after
making his first-team debut the night before.
Bingham made some excellent saves, notably keeping out a powerful
Heffernan header on 26 minutes, a Danny Stone volley on 45
minutes and a Henrik Jorgensen free-kick near the end.
The trialists on show were Karl Noble of Leicester, Scott McQuade
of Wolves and Mark Wright of Rotherham.
