Chesterfield Reserves 2 (D'Auria 38, Smith 71)
Stags Reserves 5 (Asher 12, Disley 15, Rew 20, Mitchell 45, Bradley 50)

Rob Wheldon at Saltergate

As expected the Stags began the game with both Les Robinson and Craig Disley
in the side, both men just returning from injury.  Michael Sisson continued
his recovery as he partnered Disley in central midfield.  Shayne Bradley
began the game on the bench.

The Stags dominated the opening exchanges and took a deserved lead on 12
minutes the impressive Asher, playing on the right of midfield, fired a low
shot which took a deflection and squirmed under the body of Spireite keeper
Richmond.  Three minutes later it was 2-0, the goal coming from a trade mark
burst into the area by Craig Disley who finished well.  On 20 minutes the
game was all over, David Rew finishing well after a Chesterfield defender
had headed the ball into his own area.  The Assistant on the far side
actually flagged for offside, but rightly the referee over-ruled him as the
touch was clearly from a man in blue.  A few minutes later Rew almost bagged
another, letting fly with a low shot that just missed Richmond's left hand
post.  Spireites Jamie Ingledow was injured and replaced by Gareth Davies,
Ingledow having his boot removed to receive treatment was then almost hit on
the head by the boot as one of his team mates threw it to the touchline!!
Bingham was called into action just before the half hour, saving well with
his feet from Wilding.  A slip by Robinson then let in Rushbury but again
Bingham was up to the task.  More good work from Asher, revelling in his new
role, saw him fire a left foot shot just wide but the Stags were rocked 7
minutes before half time when Jervis pulled back Rushbury and the referee
awarded a penalty and booked Jervis, D'Auria scored from the spot.
Spireites almost pulled another back when Rushbury charged down a Bingham
clearance but the ball flew just over the bar.  The Stags then restored
their 3 goal advantage just before half time when Elliott put a terrific
pass through to Mitchell who finished well.

Half-Time 1-4

The Stags made two changes at half time, off went Disley and Mitchell and on
came Bradley and Mark Robinson.  It took Bradley just 5 minutes tomake his
mark, picking the ball up on the left hand side of the area, turning neatly
and firing a low, powerful shot past Richmond to put the Stags 5-1 ahead.
Bingham was again called upon to make two more saves, the first from
Rushbury from close range, the second from substitute Davies who was clean
through.  The Stags nearly added to their tally at the other end, Bradley's
cut back was perfect for Elliott who left foot shot was tipped over the bar
by Richmond.  The Spireites pulled a goal back with 20 minutes remaining,
Smith turning well inside the Stags area and fired a shot past Bingham.
Mark Robinson was cautioned for a late challenge in the boggy midfield area
and Jamie Clarke was replaced by Jamie Shaw for the last ten minutes.

So a comfortable win for the Stags on a heavy pitch.  Particularly
impressive was Ali Asher on the right hand side and in the 1st half Craig
Disley had a typical all action display, as did Shayne Bradley who proved a
real menace in the 2nd half.
